Speech Recognition

Any clues on how MS is going to implemenet the next versions of Speech Recognition engines?
Today, if you want speech recognition, you need to buy Office. If you want speech recognition for another language, you need to buy Office Proofing Tools (or maybe Office MUI Pack).
The thing is, speech recognition is a standard thing and it should not be tied to Office in order to get it. It should be built into Windows Vista, and then Office to use the Windows speech engines, not the other way around.
I am quite stunned to see Windows XP relying on Office 2003's basic input technologies, including IME 2003 versions.

Lionel, it's cool if you have the time and inclination to 'train' it properly. Although i did read somewhere that for maximum effect you needed to speak in a 'mid american' accent; Mmm that rules me out epseically as i'm from the UK:-)
Seriously I have used it and it does understand the "Queen's" English, but aftere dicatating I always end up with a throbbing headache.
For maximum effect you also need a good qaulity microphone headset.

I don't know which sentence you're referring to, but if you've successfully gone through the tutorials, then perhaps have a think about what has changed since eg the position of the microphone etc

Whatever sentence or phrase you are not successful with may just have a certain change depending on you personal accent. Best thing to do is concentrate on a special phrasing for just the one that the software cannot pick up until it does. Difficult because you then have to remember it yourself.

Yeh - if not, then expect the MUI language pack to be rolled out in Spanish shortly after release.

I have to say, that ths is really one of the most cool features I have ever seen.
I dont really knwo what all you, Vista Beta testers, think about it (unfortunaly there is no Newsgroup in here about it), but it reall works amaizingly well.
I really had no major problems with my Vista clean instalation, and apart from some lack of Asus drivers, my notebook has been running as smoothy as baby skin since minute 1 (I have an Asus A6va).
Vista is a very interesting Os overall, but the possibility of managing most part of it by voice, is truly astonishing.
I laugh my heart out, when I see my kid (10 years old) sitting in front of the notebook, placing the headphones and start talking to the computer.
He manages it 10 times better than me (and I'm a 44 year old MSCE) lol.
In the middle of so many complaints about problems and lack of drivers going around in these Newsgrups, I would really like to congratulate Microsoft.
99% of my notebook works perfectly well, and the 1% that dosent has to do with lack of drivers from Intel and Asus.
Instalation of Vista was quick, without problems and is really stable for a Beta2.
I will definitly move to Vista the moment the Original Version comes out.
My
son wouldnt forgive me, if I didnt.
To someone like me, that started in this computer life, with a Sinclair years ago, it really is an amaizing thing to have my kid running a pc by voice.
As
he, so wisely from his 10 years, told me:
Pá (Dad) this is the future. You're getting old (LOL, sniff).
Congratuations again guys,
Keep the good work
